Lionel Andrés Messi was born on 24 June 1987 in Rosario, Santa Fe. He was the third of four children of Jorge Messi and Celia Cuccittini. His father worked as a steel factory manager. And his mother worked in a magnet manufacturing workshop.

At an early age, Leo developed a passion for football by constantly playing with his older brothers, Rodrigo and Matías, and his cousins. 

As he grew up in a football-loving family, he joined the local club “Grandoli” at the age of four. Because his father coached him during that time. But his earliest influence came from his maternal grandmother. Because Ciela used to accompany her to all his training and games. Although, he lost his grandmother before his eleventh birthday. It affected him very hard.

After childhood, Lionel Messi started his career at the age of four. His schooling took a major back seat during that time.

According to Lionel Messi’s biography, his training started right after he moved to Barcelona. First, he went to an elementary school called Leon XIII. There, he met with other children who came across from other cities to study there. 

But, he used to spend time with those kids. AT Leon XIII, Messi studied Catalan and French languages. Some sources confirmed that it is not sure whether he sat for any exams there or not.

Furthermore, he suffered from a hormone deficiency at the age of 11. It restricted his growth. Messi’s parents, Jorge and Cecilia, were having a hard time bearing his treatment costs.

So, at age 13, Messi and his family migrated to Barcelona. There, he started playing for FC Barcelona’s under-14 team. In that year, Messi scored 21 goals in 14 games for the junior team. By the age of 16, he graduated through the higher-level teams. Eventually, he was given his informal debut with FC Barcelona in a friendly match.

Mid Career

At the age of 17, Messi became the youngest official player and goal scorer in the Spanish La Liga. In 2009, Barcelona won the title of Champions League, La Liga, Spanish Super Cup titles. And he received his first FIFA “World Player of the Year/ Ballon d’Or award that year.” 

During 2009, Messi scored 34 goals in domestic games. In 2010, he won the Golden Shoe as Europe’s top scorer. Also, he was named the 2010 player of the year and received his FIFA Ballon d’Or.

In March 2012, he scored his 223rd goal and became the club’s all-time leading scorer of the year at the age of 24. He finished his 2011-2012 season with another Copa del Rey win. In that year, he broke Gerd Müller’s single-season goal record in a major European league. And he became the world player of the year in 2012. 

Later from 2014 to 2015, he helped Barcelona achieve another highway of success. It helped him achieve 5th world player of the year. Messi scored 41 goals across all competitions the following season (2015-2016). That year, Barcelona earned both La Liga and Copa titles. 

From 2016 to 2017, he topped with 53 goals and led the team towards Copa. From 2017 to 2018, he achieved the La Liga and Copa titles once again. He won another La Liga title for Barcelona as he scored 53 goals from 2018 to 2019.

In 2020-2021, Messi helped Barcelona achieve another Copa title. It was Messi’s 7th Copa title. Also, in 2021, Barcelona faced some financial issues and had to let go of Messi. He Left Barcelona with a top score of 474 goals in the League’s history. Later, he joined Paris Saint Germain.

Although, Lionel Messi had dual citizenship and tremendous career success in Spain, his liability towards his nation remained strong. In 2005, Messi debuted for the Argentina national team with a 2-1 away win over Hungary on 17th August 2005. Also, he played for the 2005 FIFA World Youth Championship squad.
